Because they are impatient and afraid of death
Trains carry thoughts to far away places
Or just the next county over
Either because they are running from something,
Pretending to be someone else,
Or just genuinely interested in traveling
Most of the time, the thoughts come back, too
Usually when someone is trying to sleep
That makes it hard to wake up
And I don't know why he had to return
But I think it was because he felt
Sorry for what he had done
Leaving us with a shattered-glass memory
And a discount store with rotten meats
Packed away in my grandmother's freezer
